What's On In Melbourne This Summer

As the end of the year draws near, the vibe of Melbourne that we love so much is finally being injected back into the streets, and the look of happiness is returning to peoples faces. It’s been a wild year to say the least, but it is shaping up to end on a high note.

Not only have we just released our first in-house flavour experiment, Fresh Orange Amaro (and daydreaming about all the places to best enjoy a refreshing spritz), events have also well and truly been given the go ahead (within COVID safe limitations of course).

Here are 5 Melbourne events happening over summer that have piqued the interest of The Gospel staff. We trust these activities will stimulate our imagination and spark creativity, or at the very least, prove to be a good time outside the house.

Imaginaria (pictured above)
26 November 2020–31 January 2021
The District Docklands, Waterfront Way, Docklands

We don’t know what it is about the merging of colour, light and sound that is so satisfying, it could be the convergence of art and science, or it could be that it’s simply fucking cool. Imaginaria takes the age-old art installation experience to the next level, with light, sound and even scents(!) reacting as you walk through.

There’s a giant, inflatable bubble, a hazy light maze, and (what we’re most excited about) a black hole hovering in space. Basically, something for everyone.

MSO Sidney Myer Free Concerts
29 January 2021-10 February 2021
Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Kings Domain Gardens, Melbourne

It’s crazy to think this event has been around for over 90 years and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is the oldest in Australia, but it’s what makes living in Melbourne so damn great.

Perfect for both classical music fanatics and people who enjoy summer picnics set against sweet tunes, there will be three evenings of entertainment. We will be packing a picnic and our Amaro Summertime Spritz ingredients for Spanish Harlem, transporting ourselves to the streets of New York City via the swinging brass, while sipping on the taste of Australian summertime.

The Koorie Art Show
5 December 2020-21 February 2021
Yarra Building, Federation Square, Melbourne

There’s never been a more important time to support local artists, which is why we will be getting around The Koorie Art Show this summer. In its eighth year, it is the only exhibition in the state dedicated to exclusively showcasing works from Koorie and Victorian-based Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists. The show will include 125 artists, from new and emerging through to established and recognised. It will feature art in both traditional and contemporary styles, with all artwork on show available to purchase.

Around Melbourne

At The Gospel, we are always seeking to find the truth through discovery and exploration, so we were intrigued to hear Photo 2021 would be based around the central theme of ‘The Truth’. Given we are in a time of increased social media and fake news, of which photography plays a massive part, we expect to be challenged and educated.

Free exhibitions and public programs will be spread across 40 galleries and cultural institutions throughout Melbourne and Victoria, so you there will be plenty of opportunities to explore and uncover ‘The Truth’ throughout the month.

Village Cinemas Coburg Drive-In
29 October 2020-31 December 2021
155 Newlands Road, Coburg North

Going to the cinemas is one of our favourite pastimes, and we are sure as hell happy that they are back. If you’re feeling nostalgic like us and want to do it the old school way and watch a movie from the comfort of your car, then Coburg Drive-In is the ticket.

Pile your car with doonas, have popcorn delivered to your car, and enjoy a film under the stars. It’s the perfect middle ground of going out and staying in.
